Ernest Albert Herron of Frontenac, Kansas passed from this life into the next on April 15, 2023 in Lawrence, Kansas.

He was born February 16, 1934 in Chanute, Kansas to Ruby and O'Dell Herron. He had eight siblings: Ruth, Robert, Roxy, Charles, Rose, Peggy, Nancy, and Larry. On June 9th, 1956, he married Correne Ann Johnson. They had four children: Cindy, Kay, Roger, and Linda, and were married for more than 62 years. Correne preceded him in death in 2018.

Ernest served in the army in the late 50s. Later, he worked for Fogarty News and then attended barber school in Wichita. In 1968, he opened Herron's Barber Shop in Pittsburg, Kansas. He retired after 43 years. Ernie liked to have fun, and he participated in many sports during his lifetime. He taught roller skating, and he coached and played softball and baseball for many years. He played basketball until he was no longer able. He never missed an opportunity to take a shot. Ernest was a Christian and a Southern Baptist. He had a strong faith that guided his life.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and most of his siblings. His daughter Cindy died in 1961 of leukemia, and his daughter Linda died in 2021.

Ernest is survived by his daughter Kay Pettit (Bud) in Lawrence and his son Roger Herron in Kansas City. Ernest leaves three grandchildren: Joel Herron, Kyle Herron (Denise), and Megan Compton (Zack), and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his sister, Nancy Schoenhofer of Erie, and his brother-in-law, Harold Johnson of Pittsburg. Condolences may be left at bathnaylor.com.
