Sipra Mukerjee

Sipra Mukerjee, 82, most recently of Orlando, FL, passed away on March 24, 2023. Sipra and her husband, Sach, were long-time residents of Pittsburg from 1964 to 1990.

Sipra was born on April 29, 1941 in Kolkata, India, to Amiya Kumar and Pratibha (Mukherjee) Banerji. She attended Loretto College in Kolkata for one year prior to her marriage to Sachindra Nath Mukerjee of Hazaribagh, India on March 4, 1960. After traveling to Thailand with her husband for his engineering position, and then back again to India, the couple met Ed McNally of Pittsburg, KS, and were encouraged to consider a move. Sachin's work with an international engineering firm moved the couple to Chicago in 1964, and after one Chicago winter, they moved to Pittsburg. In Pittsburg, Sach, as he was called by many, became an engineer with McNally Engineering Company. Sipra completed her undergraduate and master's degrees in 1968 at Pittsburg State University and was a substitute teacher at Lakeside Junior High from 1973-1975. In 1975, she joined Pittsburg High School as an English teacher and served as president of the Kansas Teacher Association of Pittsburg before her retirement in 1990.

Sipra's philanthropic focus while in Pittsburg with the Daughters of the Nile Azrim Temple No. 81 and she served as its Queen in 1988. During this time, she helped organize sewing projects for children and raised contributions for hospitals supported by the Shriners. Sach participated with membership and philanthropic work with the Shriners as well. The couple greatly cherished their time in Pittsburg and valued raising their family there. After Sach's retirement from McNally's in 1989, the couple moved to Oklahoma City in 1990, were Sach continued his work in engineering, and they enjoyed reconnecting with the Indian community there until 2010. In 2010, Sipra and Sach moved to Orlando, Fl, where she resided until her passing.

Sipra is preceded in death by her husband, Sachin, who passed away at Harbor Chase Assisted Living of Orlando on October 25, 2022, as well as her parents, Amiya and Pratibha Banerji of Ranchi, India, and oldest brother, Dipak Banerji lately of New Delhi, India. 

Sipra is survived by Dipak's wife, Anuradha Banerji of New Delhi, India, and two brothers, Sujit Banerji (Anita) of Edmonds, Washington, and Mohan Banerji (Sheila) of Wokingham, England, and cousin, Jay Chatterjee (Janet) of Cincinnati, Ohio, her two children Sandeep Mukerjee (Bratati) of Orlando, Florida, and Nina Furstenau (Terry) of Columbia, Missouri, four grandchildren, Kierin Mukerjee of New York, New York, Jenna Mukerjee of Atlanta, Georgia, Nathan Furstenau of Chicago, Illinois, and Anna Furstenau (Danni Grey) of Columbia, Missouri, three great grandchildren, Lua, Scout, and Archie Grey of Columbia, Missouri, and five nephews, Rahul Banerji (Basudha) of New Delhi, Rupum Banerji (Rumu) of Sydney, Australia, Rajat Banerji of New Delhi, Neil Banerji (Lara) of Melbourn, Australia, Clifton Teschke (Jennifer) of Seattle, Washington, one niece, Tanya Teschke (Toby Wolf) of Virginia, and numerous grand nieces and nephews.
