Shirley K. Leach

Shirley K. Leach, 81, of Arma, Kansas passed away at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at Medicalodge South of Pittsburg.

She was born July 27, 1941 in Pittsburg, the daughter of Orville and Marjorie (Hays) Belt. She grew up in Pittsburg and graduated from College High School.

Shirley worked as a Dietary Supervisor at Medicalodge South of Pittsburg for twenty-four years. In her younger years, she was a car-hop at A&W Root Beer and worked as an elevator operator in the Besse Hotel.

On December 27, 1990, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Jim Leach in Galena, Kansas. He survives at the family home.

Shirley attended the First Church of the Nazarene and loved to read the Bible. She was active in schools’ PTO’s and a den mother for Cub Scouts. She loved her children and grandchildren. She was never away from her dogs that meant the world to her. Gardening and tending to her flowers brought her great joy and satisfaction.

In addition to her loving and devoted husband Jim, she is survived by two sons, Tom Mahan and wife, Janette of Paola, Kansas and Tim Mahan Sr., of Miami, Oklahoma; a daughter, Terri Sayre and husband, Tim of Pittsburg; six grandchildren, Tim Mahan, Jr., Jennifer Mahan, Kayla Sexton, Alexandria Mahan, Ashley Finnie, and Austin Sayre and five great-grandchildren, Tim Mahan III, Andrew Mahan, Layla Dietze, Aspen Sexton and Brinclynn Sexton.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a great-granddaughter, Lydia Mahan.
