Shannon Lane Watson, 52, of Pittsburg, passed away at 12:35 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, 2022, at the Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.
She was born April 24, 1970, in Pittsburg, the daughter of Dennis B. and Carole Ann (Lambert) Watson. She attended elementary school and graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1988. She received her Bachelor of Science in education from Pittsburg State University in 1992 and her Master of Science later.
Shannon was employed at SEK Interlocal #637, where she taught preschool in the Frog room at the Family Resource Center. She was also very active in the Birth to Three program for Southeast Kansas.
Membership was held in South Broadway Baptist Church and Countryside Christian Church, as well as Alpha Sigma Alpha and Fellowship of Christian Athletes at Pittsburg State University. Shannon was an avid fan and loved to watch Kansas University Basketball and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Survivors include her parents, Dennis and Carole Watson of Pittsburg; a sister, Shay Sievert and her husband, Leo of Pittsburg; her nieces and nephews, whom she adored, Cameron Hale, Lexi Pierson, Jordan York, Austin Sievert, and Zach Dee; and a great niece and nephew, Scarlett Hale and Jackson York.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Shelley Lynn Hale.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, at the South Broadway Baptist Church with Reverend Dan Moss officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Brenner Mortuary, where friends may call after 1 p.m. to sign the register.
