Richard Earl Simpson, age 70, of Pittsburg, Kansas, passed away on July 02, 2022, at his home.
Richard was born on July 30, 1951, in San Augustine, Texas. He is a 1969 Graduate of San Augustine High School. Richard was drafted into the United States Army in 1970 and received an Honorable Discharge.
Basic Training, Fort Polk, Louisiana, AIT Pittsburg, Virginia, Fort Hood, Texas, Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Overseas Tours: South Korea and Seoul Korea.
Richard Earl Simpson proudly received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Marksmanship Badge with M16 Rifle and Hand Grenade.
Richard is survived by his children, Richard A. Simpson (Deno), Christopher Simpson, and Shaun Simpson; DeShanna Simpson and Teresa N. Simpson; two sisters, Cheryl Ann Owens and her husband, Robert, and Kathy LaFedge White; special nephews, Rickey T. Duckett of Lufkin, Texas, Patrick O. Jackson of San Augustine, Texas, Alex L. Jackson, Retired Navy, San Diego, California, and Jaylon A. White of San Augustine, Texas; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends.
His Mother, Gladys Tanner LaFedge, and Father, Richard Simpson, precede him in death. His siblings, Ray Neal Garrett, Leola LaFedge Jones, and Giles Garrett; stepfather, Nalton LaFedge; nephews, Danny Nalton Cerrell LaFedge, and Christopher Darnell Harris, retired Army, also precede him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 11, at Brenner Mortuary, with Bishop Walter Simpson officiating. Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. in the National Cemetery in Fort Scott, Kansas.
