Patricia J. McElwain, 84, of Girard, died at 5:04 a.m., Monday, February 20, 2023 in Via Christi Village in Pittsburg.
Pat was born June 16, 1938 in Girard, a daughter of Ernest "Buck" and Georgina (Shipman) Neil. She grew up and attended schools in Girard.
Pat worked at Craw-Kan Telephone in Girard before she married Mervin McElwain on December 22, 1957 in Girard. Mervin preceded her in death on December 13, 2020.
She worked as an assistant in the Girard Schools before working at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant in Parsons.
Pat was a member of the First Christian Church in Girard, and she attended the Osage Church of the Brethren near McCune. She was a former Cub Scout Den Mother, a church youth group leader, and a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club.
Pat enjoyed her family, playing cards, dominoes, and dancing.
Survivors include her sons, Jeff McElwain, and his girlfriend, Ellen Spinner, of Gilbert, Arizona and Jan McElwain of Girard; her daughters, Lisa Kress of McCune and Lori Schuler, and her husband, Don, of Hindsville, Arkansas; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; her sister, Sandy Oplotnik of Girard; her brother, Rick Neil, and his wife, Jenny, of Girard.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m., Friday, February 24, 2023 at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard, with Associate Pastor Darrell Barr officiating. Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, where friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Thursday.
Memorials are suggested to the Osage Church or the Brethren or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, and these may be left at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 W St. John, Box 258, Girard, 66743.
