Monarch Cement, Evergy partner on new solar project

Posted

HUMBOLDT, Kan. —  Monarch Cement Company announced a new partnership on Wednesday with Evergy Energy Solutions to build a new solar project at the company’s Humboldt plant. With a capacity to generate up to 20 megawatts (MW) of electricity, the project is expected to off-set a significant portion of the plant’s energy consumption, reduce greenhouse emissions, and serve as a model for the rest of the industry’s use of energy.

According to Monarch President Kent A. Webber, this partnership is a “win-win” and allows Monarch to take a giant step toward meeting 2050 goals for carbon neutrality. Webber says it will also provide “a more than significant return on investment to our shareholders.”

According to a press release from Monarch Cement, this new project will pair state-of-the-art solar panels with cutting-edge energy management technology and showcases both organizations' dedication to corporate social responsibility and sustainability and addresses the growing demand for cleaner energy alternatives.

The project aims to highlight the potential for businesses to seamlessly integrate renewable energy into their operations, supporting the transition to a cleaner and more sustainable energy future. The project is anticipated to serve as a model for other businesses looking to make a positive environmental impact without compromising operational efficiency.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the 20 MW solar project is scheduled for Spring 2024.
