Karla Kay (Edwards) Patterson was born in Pittsburg on Dec. 22, 1939. She was the daughter of Carl and Bette Edwards. She married the love of her life, Lyle Patterson, on May 16, 1958, and moved to Kansas City to start a family. They eventually ended up in Excelsior Springs, Missouri, where they lived out their lives.
Karla was a great mom! She lived her life for her family. She was deeply involved in all her kids' activities, be it scouts, sports, or cheer, and always encouraged them to perform to their highest potential. She was over the moon when she was blessed with five grandchildren.
Karla was a volunteer and a giver, and she lived a life that mattered. She had many friends. She belonged to the Beta Sigma Phi service sorority and was a longtime member of PEO.
She loved to entertain and did so every chance she got. Karla was also an artist, perfecting her craft over the years. She loved to sew and quilt, make ceramics, and paint, and most recently, she created the most amazing cards for every occasion with stamps and ink. She was a collector of beautiful things, and she surrounded herself with objects that inspired her.
Karla loved to travel, and especially adored the mountains, spending many summers in Estes Park, Colorado. But mostly, Karla loved spending time with her family, with whom she was lovingly surrounded when she passed.

Her husband, Lyle, passed 11 years before her, and she missed him dearly. Also preceding her in death were her parents, Carl and Bette, and her sister-in-law, Jeanette Edwards. She left behind her three children, Dr. James Patterson (Melissa), Mike Patterson, and Lori Schoonover (Donald); her grandchildren, Taylor and Sydney Patterson, Alex (Taylor), Adam and Brady Schoonover; her brother, Carl Edwards (Annette); her niece, Julie Edwards Barta (John, Shannon, Mathew, and Kendall); and her nephews, Mike Edwards (Sarah and Jack), and Tim Edwards (Leslie and Ella).
A graveside service will be held on July 22, 2022, at Hillcrest Cemetery, Excelsior Springs, Missouri, at 1 p.m.
