Frontenac 10U All-Stars shut out in pool play finale

Frontenac’s 10-Under All-Star team finished pool play with a 5-0 defeat to Florence, Ala., on Tuesday at the Cal Ripken 10U World Series in Crown Point, Indiana.

Quinn Terlip earned the only hit for Frontenac in the third inning with a single to left field. The three other baserunners for the All-Stars came by way of walks to Terlip, Kaden Shaffer and Alijah Weimer.

Florence scored in each of the first four innings, scoring three of its five runs on walks or errors. Brayden Jacques drove in the first run of the game in the first inning with a sacrifice fly, and Cole Richardson doubled the lead with a single, driving in Ayden Hale.  

Three Florence pitchers combined for the shutout, with Brayden Jacques earning the win. Eli Vandiver and Bentley Green made relief appearances and held Frontenac without a hit for two innings.  

Frontenac finishes pool play 0-3 and will move to the Iron Man bracket, a single-elimination bracket comprised by teams that finished in the bottom half of their respective pool. Frontenac finished fourth in the pool and will be joined by Washington Park (R.I.), who finished 1-2.

Florence finished pool play 3-0 with 18 runs scored and just one allowed, moving to the World Series bracket along with Jacksonville Beach, who defeated Washington Park 3-0 on Tuesday to finish second.

The teams will be reseeded on Wednesday, with the first games starting at 10 Wednesday morning. The tournament concludes on Saturday with the Iron Man bracket and World Series bracket championships.
