Bryan Fahler and Austin Windle won top honors in the American Bass Anglers District 58 “Take an Airman Fishing” event on Aug. 5 at Big Hill Lake near Cherryvale, Kan.
The annual event has airmen from McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita come to Big Hill to fish with the ABA District 58 members.
Fahler, from Independence, Kan., won the tournament with a five-fish total of 20.25 pounds. He also caught the big bass at 6.40 pounds, which was snagged during an early morning storm.
Kyle Kiister of Arma was second with 17.08 pounds, and Terry Knuepple of Wichita placed third with 15.32 pounds.
Windle won the Airman’s tournament at 4.99 pounds, followed by Eric Castillo with 4.84 pounds. Trent Schmidt took the big bass award with 2.44 pounds.
This was District 58’s sixth and final one-day tournament of the season. The two-day championship is scheduled for Sept. 16-17.
