Edward Jerome Meiers, 69, of Frontenac, Kansas, passed away at 1:25 a.m. Monday, March 11, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born June 6, 1954 in Pittsburg, Kansas, the son of Francis Joseph, Sr., and Angeline Irene (Montee) Meiers. He attended Eugene Field Elementary and Pittsburg High School.

Mr. Meiers worked as a welder in Texas. He later worked as a janitor for Pitt Plastics and National Mills.

Ed was a Little Leaguer, where he pitched and hit a lot of home runs in his time playing. He loved his White Oldsmobile 442 and named it the White Lightning. He was an avid Mo-Kan racer.

He was married twice, first to Annette Wydick of Texas and later to Carla Watson Meiers of Mulberry. They separated 15 years ago.

Ed would like to be remembered as an animal lover, for his love of fast cars, and that he was an avid Chief’s fan.

Ed’s nephews, Randy and Nic helped to take care of him because they cared about him, along with his brother-in-law, Albert Weir, and Pam Snider, who was a faithful worker and like a niece to him.

Survivors include two sisters, Estella Jean Mitchel (Ernie) of Jay, Oklahoma, and Angela M. Weir (Albert) of Mulberry, Kansas; son, Travis Watson (Kristy) of Girard, Kansas; two grandsons, Reece and Tyler Watson; nephews, Randy L. Rakestraw Jr, Nicholas Joseph McIntier; his faithful companion, Toddie; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Francis Joseph Meiers, Jr. and a niece, Chasity Ann Scholes.

A Memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 14, at the Brenner Mortuary with Pastor Jim Sukraw officiating. The family will receive friends following the service until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests expressions of sympathy be given to SEK Humane Society. These may be given the day of the service or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg, KS.
