William R. “Bill” Huston, 77, of Girard, died at 2:05 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025, in Freeman West Hospital in Joplin.

Bill was born Nov. 17, 1947, south of Pittsburg, a son of Frank and Fronia (Vandry) Huston. He attended Beulah Grade School and graduated from Southeast High School in Cherokee.

He served in the US Army Reserves from 1966 until receiving his honorable discharge in 1973.

Bill married Janet R. Newbery on Dec. 10, 1973, in Girard and Janet survives of the home. He worked for over 40 years in the grain business beginning at Producer’s Coop in Girard, Bartlett Grain in Bartlett, Kansas and the last 14 years at Beachner Grain in St. Paul, retiring in 2010.

Bill enjoyed his family, friends, riding his Harley, pets, fishing, hunting, collecting guns and going to the shooting range.

He was active in church and a member of Living Faith Church of the Nazarene at rural Girard, the Girard City Council for eight years, the Girard Fire and Police Departments, the Masonic Lodge and the Bone Creek Gun Club.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, Janet, of the home, are his daughter Jody Evenson of Chanute;  his son Kevin Huston, and his wife, Carmela, of Frontenac; his daughter Lacie Kranz, and her husband, Jason, of Stillwater, Oklahoma; his grandchildren, Amanda Houston, and her husband, John; Chandler Boone, and her partner, Mike Muir; Cutter Boone, and his fiancé, Sara Greenough; Kayla Huston, David Huston, Nathan Kranz, Benjamin Kranz, Timothy Huston;  his great-grandchildren Wilder Houston and Soren Houston; his brothers, Charles Beckman, and his wife, Carol, of Chandler, Oklahoma and Tim Sharp of Texas; his sisters, Penny Smith, and her husband, Frank, of Pittsburg and Gloria Iley, and her husband, John, of Pittsburg; a brother-in-law, John Newbery, and his wife, Nancy, of Pittsburg; numerous nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025, at Living Faith Church of the Nazarene at rural Girard with Pastors Mike Johnson and Rick Prideaux officiating. Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time at Living Faith.
