William “Bill” Riney

William “Bill” Riney was born in Kansas City, Missouri on Nov. 28, 1941 to Pius and Beatrice (Morey) Riney.  He passed away on Apr. 7, 2022 in Joplin, Missouri.  He is survived by his wife, MaryJane; sister Alice (Jerry) Wermuth; daughters Laura (Dave) Henness and Suzanne (Jim) Ahearn; Stepdaughters Kristy McKechnie and Tracy (Chuck) Connealy; and grandchildren William Henness, Margaret and Patrick Ahearn; Joel, Carly and Nathan Connealy and Austin and Jackson McKechnie.

Bill attended Rockhurst High School and Rockhurst college.  He worked for the IRS and the agricultural department before having a long career with business forms for the travel and golf industries.

Bill was an avid golfer and bowler with several hole-in-ones and nine “300” games.  Bill and his wife enjoyed the sunshine and golfing in Palm Springs during the winter months.  They also had twice-a-year vacations with family at the Lake of the Ozarks.  Over the years, Bill and MaryJane spent time with each daughter’s family at Disneyworld.

Bill loved dogs his entire life.  He will be excited to meet his dogs Fluffy, Patches, Danny, Prince, Annie, Holly and grand-dogs Dolly, Brit, Molly, Charlie and Peg at the rainbow bridge.  Bill loved his chocolate, milk shakes and his Peeps at Easter.  He loved dancing with MaryJane and listened to Neil Diamond up until his death.  He was a big goofball, which is the trait most of his family will remember most about him.  He was a perpetual salesman.  Bill remained friends with his first wife, Kathy, throughout his life.

Bill lived in the Kansas City area throughout his life until relocating with MaryJane to Via Christi Assisted Living in Pittsburg, Kansas in 2021.  She remains in the home.

A celebration of life will be held in Pittsburg on Apr. 18, 2022 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Crestwood Country Club, 304 W. Crestview Avenue.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to First Tee of greater Kansas City (firstteekc.org), as Dad always wanted children to learn the game of golf.
