Welcome back, Antjea

Editor’s note: This is another in a series of brief profiles of the people who bring you the Morning Sun each day.

Like that of many of the people she covers, reporter Antjea Wolff’s story includes coming to Pittsburg for an education.

Antjea grew up in Brookville, a town of a few more than 200 southwest of Salina, and graduated from Ell-Saline High School. In 2007, she moved to Pittsburg where she studied English with an emphasis in creative writing.

For a number of years, Antjea worked in retail. And while she enjoyed some aspects of her work, she said she was never fully satisfied. An opportunity to freelance for the Morning Sun in October of 2021 changed everything.

“My first article was about a play at PSU,” Antjea recalled. “I loved interviewing the cast and chatting with people. The first time I saw my byline in print, I was hooked.”

Almost immediately, the Morning Sun hired Antjea full-time. In 2023, Antjea moved to Union, Mo., to work as a general assignment reporter for the Washington Missourian. She recently returned to the Morning Sun.

“I returned to The Morning Sun because I missed working with people who had the drive and passion to make a newspaper succeed,” Antjea said. “The people in this building want to help their community and see it flourish. The people I work with are exceptional.”

Antjea said that as a reporter, she believes she’s making a difference.

“I believe words can have an impact on individuals as well as a community,” Antjea said.  “I love telling people’s stories as well as promoting events and positive changes happening in the Pittsburg community. There are a lot of passionate people here.”

Antjea said that a reporter’s work, like any other, has its ups and downs.

“This job can be a roller coaster of emotions,” she said. “but now I can’t imagine doing anything else.”
