David L. Tierney

David L. Tierney, 85, of Pittsburg, passed away at 11:24 a.m. at Medicalodges of Frontenac.

David was born June 16, 1937, in Pleasanton, Kansas, the son of Thomas Edward Tierney and Mary Ruth (Hall) Tierney. After World War II, the family moved to Pittsburg, and he spent his youth here. He attended Pittsburg High School and Pittsburg State University.

On Feb. 6, 1958, he was united in marriage to Connie Lee Yeokum at the First Baptist Church of Pittsburg. She is the daughter of Bud Yeokum and Mary (Gillenwater) Yeokum. They were happily married for nearly 64 years.

After college, he managed financial institutions for several years before managing Gibson and Wal-Mart stores. For the last 32 years before retiring, he was with Snapper Outdoor Power. After retiring, he was an auditor and inspector for financial institutions and entertained area nursing homes by singing the "Oldies but Goodies" throughout the area. David and Connie loved traveling in many of the states and were blessed to go on several cruises to Alaska, the Caribbean, Jamaica, and Nassau.

Mr. Tierney is survived by his wife of Pittsburg; three sons, Daniel and his wife Kathy, of Wichita; Dennis Tierney and Donald Tierney, of Pittsburg; four grandchildren, Christopher and his wife Amber, of Pittsburg, Tim and his wife Emily, of Carthage, Missouri, Aaron Tierney of Conway, Arkansas, and Blake Tierney of Little Rock, Arkansas; as well as several great-grandchildren, and a brother, Michael Tierney of Maumelle, Arkansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Tom Tierney, of Conway, Arkansas.

A Visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Dec. 16, 2022, at the Brenner Mortuary. Private family burial will follow at the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Friends may call after 9 a.m. Friday to sign the register book. The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association.
