Max Richard Maxwell

Max Richard Maxwell of Pittsburg, Kansas died Tuesday Mar. 8th, 2022.  He was born to Hearl and M. Elizabeth (Hamilton)  Maxwell in Mindenmines, Missouri.  Mr. Maxwell grew up in Mulberry, Kansas and graduated from Mulberry High School in 1948.  He attended Ft. Scott Community College before joining the U.S. Air Force in 1950.  He served in multiple posts in the United States and in England, Germany, Greenland and Vietnam during his 20-year career.

Mr. Maxwell married Ila Marie Bricker at the First Methodist Church of Eureka Springs, Arkansas on Sept. 1, 1951.  After retiring from the Air Force, Mr. Maxwell continued his education and graduated from Corpus Christi State University in 1980.  While living in Bishop, Texas, Mr. Maxwell owned his own bookkeeping business and was active in the American Legion and Lion’s Club. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).  In 1988 Mr. Maxwell received the Outstanding Citizen Award from the Bishop, Texas Chamber of Commerce.  Mr. Maxwell retired with Ila to Kansas in 1993.

Mr. Maxwell was privileged to participate in The Kansas Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. It was the highlight of his later years.

Mr. Maxwell is survived by his sister, Sandra Moore of Wellington, Kansas; sister-in-law Marjorie Booher of Lawrence, KS; daughters Dr. Lisa Maxwell Goode of Prairieville, Louisiana; Lynda Maxwell Rutkowski (James) of Howard City, Michigan; Lizabeth Maxwell Greenamoyer (Derek) of Zionsville, Indiana, Richard Bricker Maxwell (Deanna) of Peculiar, Missouri; Thomas Howard. Maxwell (Terri) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ila, his brothers, Hearl (Bud), Marion, Robert (Bob), sisters, Lucille Jones, and Patricia Brichalli; son-in-law John Davis Goode II, his great-grandchildren, Gabriel Lee Lockhart, Joseph Poleman Lockhart, Jake Richard Maxwell and Brooks Marc Thompson.

The family would like to offer special thanks to One Community Hospice & Palliative Care for their loving care of our dad.

Mr. Maxwell’s memorial service will take place on Apr. 16th at 11:00 at Bedene Funeral Home in Arma, Kansas.  The family will receive visitors beginning at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.  Interment will be at Rosebank Cemetery in Mulberry, Kansas.
