PITTSBURG, Kan. — Jemon Allen, 34, was sentenced to 127 months, or 10 and a half years, for a murder committed outside a bar in 2023.

On Monday afternoon, Judge Kurtis Loy gave Allen a sentence of 71 months for one count voluntary manslaughter, 43 months for one count of aggravated battery and 13 months for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Allen also must pay a $7,500 restitution, and after his release, be supervised for 36 months and register as a violent offender.

After initially pleading not guilty in January, according to Morning Sun archives, but then pleaded guilty in May.

Allen’s conviction stemmed from an incident that occurred in August 2023. Allen shot and killed 36-year-old Justin E. Krogen outside a bar at 202 N. Locust Street in Pittsburg.

During the sentencing, victim statements written by Krogen’s family members were read. In Lexi Hudson’s statement, which was read by prosecuting attorney Nicole Southall, Hudson’s words expressed that her father would never see her get her first home, get married, or start college and that she wouldn’t wish this experience on any child.

Christina Krogen, Justin Krogen’s sister, was with him at the time of the shooting and read her statement, expressing the mental aftermath she has faced watching her brother being shot to death. Christina also said that 10 years was not enough for the loss of her brother. She pointed out that Allen made a deliberate choice to kill someone that night.

“My family and me will never be the same,” she said.

When asked if he would like to say anything, Allen said two sentences.

“I apologize to the family,” he said. “It wasn’t about choice, but I do apologize.”
