Man fatally shot by Kansas City, Kansas, police officers

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Kansas City, Kansas, police officers shot and killed a man after he fired at them, the department said Wednesday.

Officers were investigating a report of a stolen car early Wednesday when they saw a “suspicious” car, according to a statement from the department.

The officers found an unresponsive man with drug paraphernalia and a weapon inside the car, according to the statement.

As officers approached the man, he began shooting at them and the officers fired back, police said.

The department's Special Operations Unit responded and found the man dead. His name has not been released.

The department did not report any officers being injured.

The Kansas City, Missouri, police department and the Wyandotte County District Attorney’s Office will investigate the case.
