Lena Agnes Faye (Proffitt) Wadino

Lena Agnes Faye (Proffitt) Wadino, 85, of Webb City, Missouri and formally Scammon, Kansas passed peacefully away surrounded by her six children and family. Lena was born March 1, 1937 in Columbus, Kansas to John William and Mary Elva Proffitt (Getman).

Lena was a 1956 graduate of West Mineral High School. She worked in the cafeteria for 20 years for Columbus School District at Scammon Elementary.

Anyone who knew Lena knew she loved to cook and bake. Her bread and cinnamon rolls were always a crowd-pleaser. Lena married the love of her life Joe Wadino on July 7, 1956. They had 33 years together. Lena and Joe raised six children and entertained many friends and loved ones in their home in Scammon. Lena did the cooking while Joe shared stories. Lena loved her family.

Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren loved spending time with her. She had a soft-spoken way about her that drew people to her. Lena was a Christian woman who shared her faith and trust in Jesus with all who knew her. Lena was a prayer warrior and believed in the power of prayer.

She was always faithful to pray for the needs of others.

Lena was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe; six brothers: Dale Sharp (infant), David Sharp, Ira Sharp, Eddie Sharp, John Proffitt (Jr.), and Chuck Proffitt; and four sisters: Mildred Gentry, Ida West, Ann Love, and Sue Mead Torneden.

Survivors include one son, Tom (Judy) Wadino of Parsons; five daughters: Cathy (Brad) Bigando of Joplin, Vicki Wadino (Mitch Bicknell) of Pittsburg, Susan (Michael) Knapps of Joplin, Sandra (Kelly) McClintick of Franklin, and Sonya Templin (Harley Darnell) of Oklahoma City; one brother, Don Proffitt of Pleasanton, Kansas; one sister-in-law, Patsy Proffitt of Cherokee; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Weir, Kansas. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home in Weir. Burial will follow at St. Bridget’s Cemetery in Scammon, Kansas. Memorials may be made to the Christian Worship Hour; these may be mailed or dropped off to the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 104 W.
