Jo Ellen Swezey, 84, of Arma, Kansas, formerly of Arcadia, died at 1:12 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2022, at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg.
Mrs. Swezey was born Oct. 7, 1938, in Arcadia, Kansas, the daughter of Jonas and Lillian Skidmore Elliott. Jo was a homemaker and retired bank clerk. She worked at Eastside Bank in Wichita, Home State Bank in Arcadia for 20 years, Mindenmines Bank, City National Bank in Pittsburg, and later retired from Community National Bank in Pittsburg in 2008. She lived in Arcadia most of her life and graduated from Arcadia High School in the Class of 1956. Jo married John Swezey on March 1, 1958.
She had been a resident of Arma Health and Rehab for the past few years. She was always working, cooking, or visiting with friends and family. She spent the majority of her time raising four children.
Survivors include her children, John A. (Diana) Swezey Jr. of Drexel, Missouri, Jennifer Ritz of Nixa, Missouri, Jamey (Colette) of Arcadia, and Jeanna (Clay) Jones of Scammon; her dear sister, Joyce Maycumber of Ft. Scott, Kansas; niece, Jill Sommers and nephew, Chris Maycumber; grandchildren: Tyler (Kate) Swezey, Taylor and Austin Bridges, Danielle (Matthew) Thomas, Jessica Ritz, Mikayla (Jordan) Smallwood, and Shelby, Zachery, and Brody Jones; and great-grandchildren, Lillian and Isabelle Bridges, Lincoln Jones, Rowan and Karleigh Thomas, and Tinlee Smallwood.
She was preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter, Samantha Jo Jones.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2022, at the Sheffield Cemetery near Arcadia, Kansas, with Pastor Roy Widmar officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Bedene Funeral Home at Arma prior to the graveside services.
