Fredrick “Fred” Lynn Schoening, age 78, of Peculiar, Missouri, passed away early Sunday morning, April 6, 2025.
Services will be held on Monday, April 14, 2025, at St. Sabina Catholic Church, 700 Trevis Ave., Belton, Missouri 64012. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. followed by a Memorial Mass at 11 a.m. Fred’s remains will then be laid to rest at Raymore Cemetery in Raymore, Missouri.
Fred was born in Fulton, Missouri on March 15, 1947, to Clarence Schoening and Helen Lorraine (Wolfmeier) Schoening. He graduated from high school and continued his education with Pittsburg State University where he achieved his bachelor's and master's degree in education. What brought Fred to Pitt State was a full ride scholarship to play football, which he really enjoyed. Fred then attended the University of Kansas and received his master's degree in physical therapy. This set the pace for a very successful career as a Physical Therapist. For thirty-five years, he was the Director of Physical Therapy at the Moberly Regional Medical Center.
In the summer of 1972, Fred was joined in marriage with his wife, Judy (Esch) Schoening on August 5 in Pittsburg, Kansas. Their union was blessed with two children, Charles and Rebecca. In life, Fred and Judy were strong in their Catholic faith. They were members of St. Pius X parish in Moberly Missouri for 50 years. Most recently attending St. Sabina Parish in Belton, Missouri. Fred loved being in the sky as he was an avid skydiver with over two thousand jumps, as well as a fixed wing pilot and a hot air balloon commercial pilot. Fred also loved to race go carts with his son Chuck and was a member of the Mid Missouri Corvette Club.
Fred is survived by his wife of 52 years Judy Schoening. His son Chuck and wife Amanda Schoening of Smithville Missouri and his daughter Rebecca and husband Matt Fowler of Raymore Missouri. As well as seven grandchildren Haley Fowler, Camron Fowler, Nora Schoening, Blake Fowler, Owen Schoening, Grayson Fowler, Hudson Fowler and one great-grandson Koleson Fowler. He is also survived by one brother Randy and his wife Beverly Schoening of Little Rock Arkansas and several nieces and nephews.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Helen Schoening, in laws Julius J. and Florence Mable Esch; two nephews, Joe and Michael Reagan; and sister-in-law, Angela Esch.
