PITTSBURG, Kan. — A vehicle collision on Jefferson Street Monday morning resulted in a foot chase and arrests, according to the Pittsburg Police Department.
At approximately 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 15, police responded to crash involving two vehicles at the intersection of Locust and Jefferson streets. According to a release, a silver 2010 Ford Fusion was traveling north on Locust Street and failed to stop at a stop sign at the Jefferson intersection. The Fusion struck a black 2021 Toyota 4-Runner that was traveling west on Jefferson Street.
18-year-old Terrian J. Williams, of Pittsburg, was driving the Fusion with his mother, 39-year-old Denise R. Kimble-Hicks, as a passenger. The 4-Runner driver was identified as 21-year-old Caden C. Thomas, of Lawrence.
While officers were on-scene at approximately 11:10 a.m., an employee of Stockade Brands Inc., located at 1057 S. U.S. 69 Highway, reported that a co-worker had stolen their 2010 silver Ford Fusion. The employee identified Williams as the theft suspect.
Williams allegedly fled the scene on foot when officers began questioning him about the theft. The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office and the Pittsburg State University Police Department assisted Pittsburg officers with the chase.
The foot chase ended at a residence in the 400 block of E. Adams Street, where Williams allegedly began to throw items, such as heavy objects and blunt instruments at officers. While officers were negotiating with Williams to surrender, he claimed to have a concealed gun and allegedly threatened to shoot officers.
Kimble-Hicks arrived on scene during this time, allegedly yelling at officers. After officers directed her several times to stay back and Kimble-Hicks refused to do so, she was taken into custody.
Officers continued to negotiate with Williams, and he refused to cooperate. Officers tased Williams and took him into custody.
Crawford County EMS responded to the scene and checked Williams and Kimble-Hicks for injuries. There were no apparent injuries.
Williams was arrested for felony aggravated assault to a law enforcement officer, felony theft, felony interference with law enforcement, felony criminal threat and misdemeanor criminal damage.
Kimble-Hicks was arrested for felony interference with law enforcement.
Williams and Kimble-Hicks are currently being held without bond. Willaims and Kimble-Hicks are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. This incident is still under investigation.
