County standouts win titles at Girard meet

GIRARD, Kan. — Pittsburg, Girard and Frontenac finished among the top five teams in both the boys' and girls' team standings during the 14-school Girard Optimist Club track meet Friday night.
Girard finished second on the girls side with 79 points, Frontenac fourth at 59 and Pittsburg fifth at 44. Southeast finished ninth at 24 and St. Mary's Colgan 11th at 17 points. Carthage (Mo.) won the meet going away with 156 points.
On the boys side, Pittsburg finished third with 93 points and the Purple Dragons were followed by Girard in fourth at 86 and Frontenac in fifth at 56. Colgan finished seventh at 30 and Southeast 10th at 13. Carthage (Mo.) earned a sweep of the team titles with 110 points and Chanute finished not too far behind at 105.
"Our athletes represent us well and help to put on a very good track meet," Girard coach Matt Logue said.
 
GIRARD
Kennedy Keller and Natalia Onelio won titles in the 1,600- and the 3,200-meter runs; Keller won the former in 5 minutes, 39 seconds and Onelio the latter in 12:27. Keller also finished third in the 800 in 2:30.
Regan Oplotnik finished second in the 200 in 27.44 and Karsyn O'Rand ran fourth in the 400 in 1:02. Addison Bowman cleared third in the 300-meter hurdles in 50.37 and Karilee Kimrey took seventh in 52.41.
The 4x400 (O'Rand, Oplotnik, Kimrey, Keller) finished second in 4:20 and the 4x100 (Jeriah Adolph, Megan Bennett, Bowman, Bailey Walker) third in 52.97.
Connor Hudson finished second in the pole vault by clearing 9 feet, 3 inches and Rachel Bennett earned second in the discus with a toss of 108-5. Aydin Sisney placed fourth in the javelin at 108-1.
On the boys side, sophomore thrower William Bishop broke the school record in the shot put for the second Friday in a row. This time, he broke his own record with a throw of 57-8 that earned him first place at his home meet. Bishop also finished sixth in the discus at 134-9.
Scott Moore finished second in the discus at 145-9 and third in the shot put at 48-7. Gannon Clark finished second in the javelin at 152-7. Aaron Doubrava gave Girard three placers in the discus by finishing seventh at 131-0.
Gavin Huber and Adairrius Valley claimed fifth and seventh in the pole vault at 11-9 and 11-3, respectively. Perrin Stevens finished third at 6-0 and Valley fifth at 5-10 in the high jump.
Sam Blaire finished fourth in the 110 hurdles in 16.25 and seventh in the 300 hurdles in 44.46. Houston McGown won the 3,200 in 10:04 and finished second in the 1,600 in 4:24. Gavin Huber ran fourth in the 800 in 2:01 and Zeb Poland fourth in the 200 in 23.99. Seth Wilson placed seventh in the 400 in 53.50.
 
PITTSBURG
De'Marus Partee swept hurdles titles with times of 14.92 in the 110 and 41.47 in the 300. Isaiah Rosenberg and Armontraze Weathersby ran first and second in the 400 in 49.66 and 50.88. Wyatt Boggs and Weathersby finished first and third in the 200 in 23.12 and 23.90. Colin Sullivan placed sixth in the 100 in 11.74.
The 4x100 (Boggs, Sullivan, Partee, Weathersby) won first in 43.46 and the 4x400 (Weathersby, Partee, Boggs, Rosenberg) first in 3:25. The 4x800 (Elijah Marban, Carter Baily, Luke Moss, Malcolm Riley) finished sixth in 9:08.
Malakai Meadows placed fourth in the long jump at 20-5 and third in the triple jump at 41-7; Courtland Jones finished sixth in the long jump at 20-1 1/2. T.J. Wesley placed fifth in the shot put at 47-4.
On the girls side, Sophia Hertrich won the 400 in 1:02 and Alycia Cosens won the javelin at 127-11; the 4x100 (Ava Heardt, Cosens, Ivery Watts, Hertrich) also earned first in 52.41.
Promise Brooks finished second in the 100 hurdles in 17.12. Heardt took fifth in the 100 in 13.64. Grace Rogers placed fifth in the shot put at 32-3.
 
FRONTENAC
Freshman standout Reece Franklin won titles in the high jump at 5-6 and the triple jump at 36-5 3/4, and finished second in the 300 hurdles in 48.44.
Cera Schenck finished second in the 3,200 in 13:18 and fourth in the 1,600 in 5:57. Abby Albright ran seventh in the 1,600 in 6:07 and Kylin Perry finished seventh in the 100 in 13.81. The 4x800 (Schenck, Albright, Breklyn Condon, Addison Stanley) ran fifth in 11:04 and the 4x400 (Stanley, Condon, Anistyn Clayton, Franklin) sixth in 4:29.
Ava Lilly finished third in the javelin at 111-0 and Perry added seventh at 103-7. Marlie Pennington placed fourth in the long jump at 15-11 1/4. Ella Blythe earned sixth in the pole vault at 7-9.
On the boys side, Ethan Merrick won the discus at 152-9 and took fourth in the shot put at 47-10. Jayden Houghton finished sixth in the shot at 47-3 and Wyatt Collins seventh in the javelin at 129-1.
Kayden Chance finished second in the triple jump at 42-2 1/2 and sixth in the 400 in 53.30. Kruz Pickle and Caleb Jameson finished third and fourth in the pole vault at 12-3.
The 4x100 (Chance, Wyatt Frazier, Brogan Smith, Camden Ishimura) finished second in 44.21. Ishimura also finished second in the 100 in 11.45 and seventh in the 200 in 23.13. Brogan Smith finished fifth in the 300 hurdles in 43.43.
 
ST. MARY'S COLGAN
Junior sprinter and jumper Klayton Adamson won the long jump with a leap of 21-4 1/2 and finished second in the 100 in 11.58.
Distance runners Colton Smithhisler and Michael Vacek ran fourth and sixth in the 3,200 in 10:37 and 10:53; Smithhisler also took sixth in the 1,600 in 4:53. Smithhisler ran the second leg on the 4x800 (Ethan Paulie, Smithhisler, Lucas Suarez, Jax Renn) that placed fourth in 8:59.
On the girls side, the 4x800 (Gillian Wilbert, Hope Treiber, Alli Karleskint, Mimi Fleming) finished third in 10:38. The 4x400 (Katie Paulie, Kayla Hutchinson, Karleskint, Fleming) placed fourth in 4:29. The 4x100 (Treiber, Paulie, Wilbert, Hutchinson) finished sixth in 53.75.
Katie Paulie finished sixth in the 300 hurdles in 52.09. Sarah Schibi also finished sixth in the shot put at 31-10 1/2. Hutchinson finished seventh in the long jump at 15-4 3/4.
 
SOUTHEAST
Eliz White won the 800 in 2:26 and helped the 4x800 (White, Elena White, Kendyl Renn, Journee Rimmer) place fourth in 10:42. Renn finished sixth in the 3,200 in 13:43 and Aubri Smith also finished sixth in the 100 in 13.77.
The 4x100 (Kilynn Banke, Sandra Robinson, Camryn Sanders, Smith) finished seventh in 54.09 and the 4x400 (Banke, Smith, Elena White, Eliz White) were also seventh in 4:36.
Gabby Ulepich cleared fifth in the high jump at 5-0 and Jackie Robinson finished sixth in the pole vault at 7-9.
On the boys side, Trey Galindo won the pole vault at 12-9, Kyler Brewer finished sixth in the high jump at 5-10 and the 4x800 (Christopher Archey, Zayne Gabern, Hudson Locke, Tucker Sutton) were seventh in 9:19.
