Charles E. Herrenbruck

Charles E. Herrenbruck, 77, of rural Pittsburg, passed away peacefully at 5:30 p.m., Monday, June 16, 2025, at his home.

He was born July 13, 1947, at Great Bend, Kansas, the son of Tom and Ethel (Hitz) Herrenbruck. He graduated from Hudson High School in Hudson, Kansas. Charlie graduated from Pittsburg State University’s Welding and Metallurgy Program in 1967. 

On Oct. 7, 1967, he was united in marriage to Nancy Bishop in Nevada, Missouri. She survives at the family home.

Charlie served in the United States Air Force from 1967 until 1971.

He worked as a welder for Atkinson Armature, Helio Aircraft, P&M Coal Company, then retired from Cherokee County Road and Bridge Department.

Membership was held in St. Bridget’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus-St. Bridget’s Council #3316, Scammon, KS.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy of the home, three children, Chip Herrenbruck (Ronda) of Baxter Springs, KS, Patty Jo Herrenbruck of Indianapolis, IN, and Andy Herrenbruck (Dusty) of So. Coffeyville, OK; seven grandchildren, Kenneth (Macy) of Lawrence, KS, Peyton of Wichita, Colston and Thomas of Derby, Delaney of Bartlesville, OK, Brayden and Cooper of So. Coffeyville, OK; three brothers, Stanley (Bonnie) of Coffeyville, KS, Galen (Pam) of Winfield, KS, and Roy of St. John, KS; three sisters, Joan (Roy) of Hutchinson, KS, Joyce of Salina, KS and Janette (Richard) of St. John, KS; and son-in-law, Paul Crandon of Derby, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Chris Crandon and a brother, Wayne Herrenbruck.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 27, 2025, at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Scammon with Fr. Chris Martin as celebrant. Burial will follow in Bird Cemetery south of Pittsburg. A Knights of Columbus rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday evening June 26, at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Scammon, KS. A parish rosary will be prayed following the Knights of Columbus rosary. Following the rosaries, the family will receive friends until 8 p.m. at St. Bridget’s Hall in Scammon. Memorials may be given to Knights of Columbus-St. Bridget’s Council #3316, and/or the Oklahoma Union FFA Chapter. These may be left at or mailed to Brenner Mortuary, 114 E 4th St., Pittsburg, KS  66762. Friends may leave condolences online at brennermortuary.com.
