August Joseph (A.J.) Oberzan 92, of Overland Park, Kansas died 2:55 a.m. Wednesday Apr. 13, 2022 at his home following an illness. A.J. was born Mar. 20, 1930 in Fleming, Kansas the son of August William and Anna Gerant Oberzan. He was a graduate of West Mineral High School and continued his education at Kansas Teacher’s College in Pittsburg, Kansas. A.J. was a veteran of the United States Army and was honorably discharged on May 7, 1952. In 1953 A.J. married Dollie Dean Murty; she preceded him in death on Mar. 6, 1996.
A.J. worked as a Real Estate Agent, Broker and Contractor for many years in Ft. Scott, Kansas and later the Kansas City area for many years. He also worked for Oppenheimer and sold Farm Real Estate as well. A.J. was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Overland Park, Kansas and loved to hunt, fish and most all be in the company of family and friends.
Survivors include his children Paige Erickson of Overland Park, Kansas and Dirk Oberzan and wife Michelle of Olathe, Kansas; sister Gloria Percy of Tulsa, Oklahoma; grandchildren Brooke Erickson of Overland Park, Kansas, Zach Oberzan and wife Melanie of Olathe, Kansas, Austin Oberzan and wife Rebecca of Olathe, Kansas, Alec Oberzan of Roeland, Kansas and Grace Oberzan of Olathe, Kansas; great-grandchildren Nash and Nix Kiblen of Overland Park, Kansas.
A.J. was preceded in death by his wife, parents, infant sister and 2 stillborn boys.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday Apr. 23, 2022 at the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Fr. Jerome Spexarth as celebrant. Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers the family asks expressions of sympathy to be in the form of memorials to the Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Fund.
