Sheldon Ernest DeLange, 83, of Girard, passed away at 8:02 a.m., Friday, Sept. 23, 2022, at the Girard Medical Center. Sheldon was born Sept. 18, 1939, the son of Ernest and Bernice (Geier) DeLange. He attended Salem School for eight years and graduated from Girard High School. He also attended Kansas State University, where he majored in agriculture.
Sheldon married Patsy Ruth Tersinar on March 2, 1962. They later divorced but remained friends and business partners until his passing. Sheldon was a lifelong farmer and rancher and excelled in his profession. He earned multiple awards and recognitions throughout his life. In addition to his passion for farming, he loved to serve his community. He spent many years serving on the local and Kansas Farm Bureau Boards of Directors, USD #248 School Board, Craw-Kan Board of Directors, and Girard City Council. He particularly enjoyed his work with the Fellowship of Christian Farmers. He was also a member of the Girard Bible Church since 1969.
Sheldon is survived by three daughters: Cindy Berg (Paul) of Montgomery, Alabama, Nancy Schifferdecker (Mark) of Girard, and Susan Hull (Wayne) of Bentonville, Arkansas; eight grandchildren: Emily (Josh), Allison (Kyle), Joslyn (Zachary), Sara (Spencer), Bethany, Trevor, Haleigh (Evan) and Callie. He has one great-grandchild, Norah. He is also survived by two sisters: Karen Murphy of Belton, Missouri, and Debbie Matlock of Springfield, Missouri.
Sheldon was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Barbara Grimes.
Funeral services will be held at Girard Bible Church at 204 W. Northern Ave., on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 10 a.m. Visitation will be Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Smith Carson Wall Funeral Home in Girard.
Memorials may be made to the Fellowship of Christian Farmers or Girard Bible Church. These may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 West St John St., P.O. Box 258, Girard, Kansas 66743.
