Pittsburg, KS: Roy Emerson Jones, age 68 of Pittsburg, passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at his home.

Roy was born in Cherokee, KS on April 21, 1954 to the union of Robert Emerson Jones and Nora (Peace) Jones. He had lived in Cherokee and Oswego, KS, but had spent several decades as a resident of Pittsburg. He had an incredible work ethic, sometimes working up to 4 jobs at a time. He was an all-around handyman, delivered canned soda on his "pop route", worked as a maintenance technician for an international paper company, and later worked as a Lead Operator at Pitt Plastics until his retirement in 2021.

He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and spending time outdoors. He was a jokester and prankster, often playing tricks on his friends and family that would result in hours of laughter and stories to share for years. He was a devoted father that loved spending time with his kids and grandkids, even when it got him into some interesting predicaments. His grandkids once found chickens that he decided to keep and raise. That event sparked a unique interest in small farm animals. One day he came home with a baby goat for the grandkids that required bottle feeding. Of course, the goat stayed at his house and the grandkids enjoyed visiting every time they came over, as well as the additional chickens he chose to add to his small hobby farm.

He was united in marriage with Tammy (Gideon) Jones in 1979. They later divorced, but they remained close friends and raised their children together.

He is survived by one son, Shawn Jones (wife, Jamie) of Pittsburg, KS; one daughter, Angela Jones of Pittsburg, KS; grandchildren, Eric, Kayla, Madison, Collin, and Carter; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Nora Jones; two sisters, Sherry VanDorn and Roseanna Kuehn.

Mr. Jones has been entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home of Galena for cremation. The family will host a graveside memorial service at Monmouth Cemetery at a later date. Online condolences may be expressed at www.derfeltfuneralhomes.com.
