Richard Paul Buffington

Richard Paul Buffington, 72, passed away Sunday, February 19, 2023 at 8:40 a.m.

Richard was born in Mulberry, KS, to Lester and Lucille (Wilson) Buffington on January 28, 1951. He was the ninth of twelve children. Richard graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1969. In August of 1969 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in May of 1973. He was a helicopter mechanic in Vietnam and a proud Vietnam Veteran.

Following his service in the military, Richard painted water towers from 1975-1977. In 1977 he went on to work at the Army Ammunition Plant in Parsons, KS, retiring in 2008.

Richard is survived by his two daughters, Valeri Hart and her husband Charlie of Gray, TN, and Linda Buffington of Pittsburg, KS; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, Pat Hansen of Augusta, KS, Lynn Giordano and her husband Jim of Arma, KS, and Jo Peterson, of Frontenac, KS, and one brother, Russell Buffington of Cherokee, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, John, Ed, Ray, Tom, Mike, David, and a sister Jean O'Donnell.

Memorial graveside service will be on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. at the Mt. Olive Cemetery.
