PITTSBURG, Kan. — Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas this week announced the addition of a new board member, Rachel Ruiz, who represents Crawford County patients.

Ruiz is currently studying chemistry, biology and public health at Pittsburg State University. Some of Ruiz's research includes experience as a surgery undergraduate researcher at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and at PSU, she participated in the K-INBRE Star Training, a symposium to provide an opportunity for Kansas scientists to present their original research.

Additionally, Rachel has been involved in several leadership experiences, including being past president of HOSA - Future Health Professionals at the local chapter at the University of Minnesota Rochester. Prior to that she was the Kansas president and vice-president of HOSA.

She’s also the Praise and Worship Team pastor at the Open Door Fellowship Church in Pittsburg, the president of Hispanics of Today at PSU and multicultural affairs director for the Student Government Association at PSU.

“I am very excited to be serving on the CHC/SEK board to continue the commitment of bringing quality care in every capacity to all people,” Ruiz said in a press release. "As a Pittsburg native who has grown up with CHC/SEK, I am so honored to be serving on the CHC/SEK board to continue the commitment of bringing quality care in every capacity to all people. I am excited to apply my perspective as a Hispanic and Pitt State student to continue to address issues that will benefit all the community.”
