Marilyn L. Davis

Marilyn L. Davis, 93, of Pittsburg, Kansas, passed away at 10:35 p.m., Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg. 

She was born July 14, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of C. Leonard and Edna K. (Hanson) Swanson. She attended schools in Sioux City, Iowa, graduating from Leeds High School. She attended college in St. Peter, Minnesota, and the Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis. 

On November 28, 1957, she was united in marriage to John M. Davis in Sioux City, Iowa. They lived in El Dorado before moving to Pittsburg in 1972. He preceded her in death on October 4, 2000. 

Mrs. Davis did parish work at Zion Lutheran Church in Minot, North Dakota, and for the National Lutheran Council in Temporary construction communities in Pikeston, Ohio, and Aurora, Minnesota. She began working at Pittsburg State University in the International Student office in 1974, retiring in September, 1993. 

Membership was held in St. John Lutheran Church, where she was active in the ELCW and the Blanket Brigade. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, Mother to Mother, and Wesley House. 

Survivors include two sons, Lance Davis of Pittsburg, and Laurel Davis and his wife, Angela, of Andover, Kansas; a daughter, Lynette Wetta and her husband, Daniel of Wichita; Nine grandchildren, Joe Davis (Jessica), Katy Kincaid (Tyler), Abby Davis, Patrick Wetta (Mollie), Katy Gardner (Brian), Leo Wetta (Megan), John Wetta, Nick Wetta and Jacob Wetta. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a brother, A. Edwin Swanson. 

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 23, at St. John Lutheran Church, with Pastor Tom Schindler officiating. Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the National Cemetery in Fort Scott, Kansas. The family will receive friends Sunday, May 22, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Brenner Mortuary, where friends may call after 10:00 a.m., Sunday, to sign the register book. In lieu of flowers, the family invites memorial contributions to the St. John Lutheran Church. These may be left or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th, Pittsburg, KS 66762.
