Margaret Benthin

Margaret Benthin, 82, passed away on June 1, 2023, at Baldwin Health Care and Rehab in Baldwin City, Kansas. 

Margaret Benthin was born on November 4, 1940 in Goff, KS, to Loyd Holliday and Loretta Holliday. Margaret graduated from Atchison County Community High School in 1958 and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Social Work and a minor in Psychology from Pittsburg State in 1992. She started her career as a Social Worker at Community Mental Health Center of Crawford County for 10 years, then went on to Pathways Community Health Center in Nevada until she retired in 2009. 

Margaret married Gorman Benthin in Holton, KS on September 14, 1958. The couple had four children, Debie Fuquea, Dee Benthin, David Benthin, and Donnita Ashpaugh. They later divorced in 1980. 

Margaret was best known for fishing with grandchildren, playing board games with family, and dirt track racing on Saturday nights. 

Margaret is survived by one sister, Joyce Gigliotti of Winchester, MA; two daughters Debie Fuquea of Alamosa, CO, Donnita and Son in law Mike Ashpaugh of Broken Arrow, OK; six grandchildren, Mandy Snider of Hiawatha, KS, Joe Syslo of Ulysses, KS, Joy Wadino of Baldwin City, KS, Kayle Williams of Baldwin City, KS, Alec Ashpaugh of Broken Arrow, OK, and Kegan Ashpaugh of Broken Arrow, OK; 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. 

Margaret is preceded in death by her father, Loyd Holliday; mother, Loretta Holliday; nine siblings; daughter, Dee Benthin; and son, David Benthin.

The service for Mrs. Margaret Benthin will be held on Monday, June 19, at 10:00 a.m. at Bath Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg, KS. Burial will be held after the funeral service is completed at Highland Park Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made in Margaret's name at Bath Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg, KS.
