Lucas Jay Jarrett, 41, of Pittsburg, Kansas, passed away on Feb. 2, 2025, leaving the world a little quieter. Born on July 24, 1983, in Joplin, Missouri, he was the son of Cynda and Jay Jarrett. Lucas graduated from Chetopa High School in 2002 before earning his degree from Pittsburg State University.
On Feb. 8, 2017, Lucas married Sara Donnell. Though their marriage ended, Lucas and Sara remained devoted co-parents and close friends, always united in their love for their daughter, Charlie Elizabeth, the center of their worlds.
Lucas was a force of nature who lived life on his own terms — boldly, passionately, and with a heart as big as his personality. His presence was impossible to ignore, and his laugh was contagious. While his fun-loving energy was infectious, his adventurous lifestyle led him down some difficult roads. He understood life’s struggles firsthand but also knew the beauty of second chances. Three years ago, he found a home and a path to recovery within the Oxford House community in Pittsburg. As his role in the community grew, he embraced the opportunity to serve others, finding a deep sense of purpose.
Lucas loved the outdoors — fishing, hunting, and tinkering in the garage brought him joy. But nothing meant more to him than time spent with his daughter, Charlie. They shared long bike rides, shopping trips, and weekly lunch dates, and he was in the midst of teaching her to drive his old pickup truck.
He is survived by Sara Jarrett, their daughter Charlie Jarrett, his mother Cynda Jarrett, his father Jay Jarrett, his grandmother Bertie Tilberg, his sister Jessica Marvel, her husband Mikey, their children Jarrett and Kate, an extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and an army of cherished friends.
A memorial service will be held on Feb. 8, 2025, at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 415 North Pine Street, Pittsburg, with Pastor Daniel Reffner officiating.
