John R. Spangler, 70, of Pittsburg, passed away on Oct. 31, 2022.
John was born on Jan. 13, 1952, to Lawrence and Maude Spangler (Wise) in Pittsburg, Kansas. John graduated from St. Mary's Colgan high school in 1970. He was united in marriage to his late wife, Janet Spangler (Allen), in 2006.
John was an avid sports fan and could often be found cheering on the Colgan Panthers and other local high school sports. He especially enjoyed watching his grandkids take part in their extracurricular activities. In his pass time, he enjoyed fishing and bowling and will be remembered as a loving and dedicated grandfather.
Survivors include his two children, Jason and his wife, Sandra Spangler of Joplin, and Cassie and her husband, Kody Bicknell of Pittsburg; his brother, Dan Spangler of Fort Worth, Texas; and his five grandchildren: Piper and Kage Bicknell, and Jeffery, Jaxson, and Brooklyn Spangler.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Maude Spangler (Wise); two siblings, Linda Baker and Barbara Spangler; and his wife, Janet Spangler.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions may be made to the Colgan Booster Club.
A cremation memorial service will be held at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg on Friday, Nov. 4, 2022, at 3 p.m. The family will receive friends for visitation prior to the service from 2 to 3 p.m. His ashes will be buried at a later date at Highland Park Cemetery in Pittsburg. Arrangements are made by the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home.
