Dorothea Kay (Cox) Hurlbut, 74, passed from this earth on Jan. 16, 2025, at the Galena Nursing Center, Galena, Kansas following a battle with Alzheimer’s. Dorothea was born Nov. 15, 1950, in Pittsburg, KS to Allen S. and Annabell (Green) Cox. She was one of four children- a brother Richard and sisters Carol and Linda. She grew up in Pittsburg and attended the Pittsburg Senior High School and Pittsburg Cosmetology School. Pittsburg was her hometown, and she loved it as her home until she willingly gave it up to be with the Lord and rejoined with her mom and dad who she missed deeply until the day she left this earth.
Dorothea married David Tippie of Pittsburg, and they went on to have four children, Michael, Marc, Anna and Jon before their marriage ended.
Dorothea would later have marriages to Mohammed Ghahroodi of California and Jim Hurlbut of California.
Dorothea spent her early years as a stay-at-home mother and then worked in the retail field and in her later years for the railroad. She loved the game of golf. But she mostly loved and thanked God for her children and especially for her grandchildren and great grandchildren which she considered the blessing of her life. Prior to the onset of Alzheimer’s, she loved attending church at the Victory Life Church in Pittsburg where she was baptized in the holy spirit.
Dorothea was predeceased by her parents Allen and Annabell Cox, her brother Richard Cox, sisters Carol Goddard and Linda Agee, nephews Richard Goddard, Raymond Goddard and great-grandson Vincent Dominic Blevins and her dearest friends Michael and Jo Ellen Hagerty.
She is survived by all three of her ex-husbands, her son Michael Tippie, wife Michelle of Riverton, KS. Son Marc Tippie of Pittsburg; daughter Anna Shepherd (Tippie) husband Mark of Payne, Oh.; and son Jon Tippie, wife Kristy of Girard, KS. Stepdaughter Amber Chantell Hurlbut.
