Dakota Lee Jones

Posted

On Nov 21, 2022, Dakota Lee Jones, 33, or Weir, Kansas, left this world on his last journey home just one day shy of his 34th birthday. Anyone knowing him knows he never did things the easy way in life, just as he is proving to do in death. He was one of a kind who marched to his own drummer, always thinking outside the box. He had an enormous heart with a desire to help others, often when he himself was in need. Through the past year, he worked hard to turn his life around. Something those who knew him were all proud of, but something he was very proud of as well. He spent time over these last few months reconnecting with so many friends and family. He was enjoying working alongside his dad learning how to erect steel buildings in Coffeyville, Kansas.

Dakota graduated in 2007 from Southeast High School and later got his degree in construction from Coffeyville Community College, Columbus, Kansas, as well as taking classes in welding and machine shop. There was not a challenge that he didn’t accept, nor was he afraid to work hard to achieve. Dakota loved his music, art, playing and teaching chess, skateboarding, hanging with his friends, enjoying the outdoors, and playing foosball. Most of all, he loved hanging with his best lil buddy, Julian. The sun rose and set on his daddy….his hero. They enjoyed fishing, critter hunting, video games, just chilling, watching movies, and were looking forward to riding their new motorcycles together. So many special relationships he built throughout his years. In just the past few months, he had a peace and love in his heart knowing he had finally found the love of his life, Jessica Greene and son, Jaxon Westervelt. Those who knew him have gained a feeling of family through her and through her very special mom, Carla Tackett and family.

His mother, Carole Jones, survives Dakota along with his son Julian Jones, both of the home. His father, Robert Jones II and wife Paula of Mannford, Oklahoma, brother Jeromy Averyt and wife Mandy of Skiatook, Oklahoma, sister Crystal and brother Robert Jones III. He had many extended families: Trenton Dentis of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, James (Jed) Dentis of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Ronnie Johnson of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Preceding him in death are his maternal grandparents, Jack and Louise Bruyr, formerly of Weir, Kansas, his paternal grandparents, Robert Jones I and Jean, formerly of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and a sister Jamie Phillips and Tristan Dentis from his extended family. In his heart, he held a very special place for everyone including so many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.

A favorite quote, “May the winds always be at your back and the sun upon your face and may the wings of destiny carry you aloft to dance with the stars.” Cremation has been handled by Bath Naylor Funeral Home and Crematory, Weir, Kansas. The family has decided to hold a Celebration Of Life, hopefully outside in warmer weather. Further information will be announced enough ahead of time in order to include everyone. Arrangements are under the direction of Bath-Naylor Funeral Home of Weir, Kansas.
