Corene Shaffer, 88, of Girard, passed away at 4:25 a.m., Sunday, July 17, 2022, at the Westridge Senior Living in Girard.
She was born Nov. 21, 1933, in rural McCune, a daughter of Lester and Goldie ( Brader ) Stewart. Corene attended McCune schools and graduated from the McCune High School.
On Dec. 21, 1951, Corene was united in marriage to Ray Shaffer Jr. He preceded her in death on May 9, 2020.
Corene was a receptionist for Dr. Kinsett Blackwood, optometrist, and Dr. Welsey Hall, M.D.
Corene was a member of the Girard United Methodist Church and the Pink Ladies of the Girard Medical Center.
She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She also enjoyed her extended family of cousins, nephews, nieces, and many friends.
Corene is survived by two sons, Martin Shaffer and wife Cathy of Girard, Kevin Shaffer and wife Kathy of Arma; granddaughter, Ali McCullough; grandson, Jason Shaffer; and great-grandchildren, Jazmyn Fecht, Taylor Shaffer, Ashley Shaffer, and Marshall McCullough.
In addition to her husband, Corene was preceded in death by one daughter, Kristine Shaffer; one grandson, Brad Shaffer; two brothers, Stanley Stewart and Charles Stewart; six sisters: Donna Johnson, Vera Dalrymple, Geneva Shipman, Loretta Cortner, Bernice Flaharty, and Gladys Stewart.
Graveside services for Corene Shaffer will be at 9 a.m., Thursday, July 21, 2022, at the Girard Cemetery, with Pastor Rick Prideaux officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2022.
