Constance J. (Connie) Wary

Constance J. (Connie) Wary, 88, Columbus, died Dec. 25, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Born January 20, 1936, in Salina, Kansas, Connie was the daughter of Vergil Yeagley and Margaret (Breault) Yeagley. She was raised in Salina and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1954, and later from Coffeyville Community College in Columbus, Kansas in 1989.

Connie was united in marriage to Ted Wary on Feb. 4, 1956, in Salina, and they were devoted to each other for over 68 years. He preceded her in death by 10 weeks on Oct. 15, 2024.

Connie was a loving wife and mother who devoted her life to raise their eight children in a warm, caring, Catholic home, living in Manhattan, Yates Center, and finally in Columbus, Kansas. 

All eight children were members of the Shamrock 4-H club and both Connie and Ted served several years as project leaders. In addition to teaching her kids to cook, sew, and learn numerous crafts, she also found time to teach classes in knitting and crocheting to people of the community. She loved supporting her kids and grandkids and was always in the stands watching whatever activity they were involved in, be it sports or the arts. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, where she was a member of the choir for several years and was a volunteer at Maude Norton, Mercy Hospital, Columbus.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ted, one brother, Larry Yeagley, infant granddaughter Monica Wary, and a great-granddaughter Lucy Dugan.

She is survived her children Joleen Walden (Rick), Jeff Wary (Anabelle), and Jay Wary all of Columbus; Jim Wary of Tulsa, Okla.; John Wary (Kimberley) of Rogers, Ark.; Janice Greer (Barry) of San Antonio, Texas; Joe Wary (MaryJean) of Colwich, Jill Shriver of Pittsburg; 23 grandchildren, Matthew Walden, Melea Ulery, Marcus Walden, JJ Wary, Sean Wary, Megan Onder, Nickolas Wary, Zackary Wary, Tara Spencer, Dustin Wary, Derek Wary, Christopher Greer, Blaise Greer, Kathleen Wary, Rachel Morris, Angela Dugan, Stephen Wary, Aaron Wary, Alex Wary, Arik Wary, Nathan Shriver, Alexa Shriver, and Emily Shriver; 27 great grandchildren, one sister, Lavonne Fleming of Germantown, Ohio, one brother, Robert Yeagley of Junction City, Kansas and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 6 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 115 West Walnut Street, Columbus, Kansas. Rosary and visitation will be at 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5 at the church. Burial will follow the service at Park Cemetery, Columbus.  Memorials may be made to the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice; these may be left at or mailed to the funeral home.  Condolences may be left at www.bathnaylor.com services and arrangements are under the direction of the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home of Columbus.
