Claudia Neil (McKee) Waltrip

Claudia Neil (Mckee) Waltrip, 78, of Pittsburg, Kansas passed away on Monday, Apr. 11, 2022 at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born June 271943 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Zena Gertrude (Miner) Hosier and Claude McKee. She graduated from College High School in 1961 and shortly after became a mother, which was her greatest desire in life.

On May 21, 1997, she was united in marriage to James “Jim” R. Waltrip in Pittsburg.

Claudia was a homemaker and caregiver to many. She was always willing to lend a hand and help anyone in need. 

Membership was held in the Open Door Fellowship Church.

Survivors include her husband, James “Jim” R. Waltrip of Pittsburg; three sisters, Gloria Dee Barrett of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, Patsy (the late Charles) Henderson of Dewar, Oklahoma, and Phyllis Wells of Dewar, Oklahoma; a son, Douglas Williams of Wichita, Kansas; four daughters, Shelly (Juston) Handshy of Pittsburg, Janel (Anthony) Williams of Pittsburg, Candace McKee of Pittsburg, and  Renee (Jamie) Holms of Kansas City, Kansas; eight grandsons, Michael (Karen) Smith of Waxhaw, North Carolina, Billie (Jeana) Smith of Waxhaw, North Carolina, Chance Vandorn of Pittsburg, Preston Herzog of McCune, Kansas, Logan Herzog, Corbin McIntier, Tobin Hines, and Luke Williams all of Pittsburg; 9 granddaughters, Ivy (Larry) Skelton of Coffeyville, Kansas, Cylena (Brad) Leach of Girard, Kansas, Kaelyn Williams, Jocelyn Williams, Madelyn Williams and Shaelyn Williams all of Pittsburg, Alice Hines of Pittsburg, Vanity McIntier of Pittsburg and Reece Holmes of Kansas City, Kansas; 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Billie Jim Hosier, Zena Gertrude Hosier, two brothers, Hollis R. Moats and Charles L. (Jerry) Moats, a sister, Lois G. (Moats) West, a daughter, Melissa Wegert, an infant son, Michael Dale Williams, and a grandson, Claude Dean Smith. 

 She was loved by her family and will be missed by many.

A service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Apr. 13 at Open Door Fellowship Church with Pastor Don Talent officiating. Burial will follow in the Frontenac City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Brenner Mortuary, where friends may call after 3 p.m. to sign the register. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to the Open Door Fellowship Church. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St., Pittsburg, KS  66762.
