Leah Gagnon, director of patient engagement at Wesley House, says the Gathering Place has weathered the first winter storm of the season. Opened on Wednesday, the new shelter has provided a place for homeless citizens to sleep during the recent cold snap. Hosting 10 people on the first night, and 15 on Thursday night, Gagnon said she has been lucky not to have to turn anyone away. more
Saturday, Dec. 24, is the last official day Salvation Army bell ringers will be out in the public until next year’s holiday season. Although the nonprofit has been working hard to collect donations for its annual Christmas fundraiser, this week’s cold weather and lack of volunteers has forced the organization to reduce the number of buckets on the street to a single indoor location at Ron’s Supermarket. more
